We discuss design and veganism with Wagner Rosati
What is your own background briefly?
About to complete 5 years in Ireland, 39, I am originally from Brazil, I decided to come to Island to live a new life experience, not only seeking work opportunities but to learn new cultures.
With a degree in Advertising and Design, I have worked in several places over 10 years of experience, gaining valuable skills working for Ad Agencies to Web studios, across a range of industries, from the concept ideas to the final design.
I also run the Vegan Jobs Ireland (www.veganjobsireland.ie).
Nowadays I work for a cybersecurity company based in Dundalk as a UX Designer.
Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?
As a creative designer and vegan for over 7 years, I felt I needed to join my skills with my passion in order to do something relevant to help people and consequently the animals.
Once I noticed the need for an app to help people finding plant-based products based in their location, I realized that I could do it myself.
How was the last 12 months? What were your big wins?
12 months ago I was working on the idea, the concept, doing user research to double-check the needs for this type of app. Lots of things have changed, a few people were part of this project, and I still have support from them, from design tips to understanding the marketplace.
I’ve participated in some startups programs, talked to other vegans to validate the idea, I believe the last 12 months was great in terms of learning, the ups, and downs make you strong, so even with the difficulties I had in the process, I see them now as important to my growth and the app’s improvement.
What would you have done differently?
I’ve spent too much time trying to find someone to join as a team, and it’s hard to find someone to join your project with the same level of interest as yours, so I would do now is spend less time looking for this person, and focus more to structure the project before thinking about development.
What is the Vegan Check app and why do you think it is such a powerful idea?
Vegan Check app is a centralized access point helping you to get plant-based products and services based in your location, in a social environment.
Plant-based foods are a booming business. From food manufacturers to leading CPG companies to the world’s largest meat companies are innovating rapidly in this category.
These next-generation plant-based meat, egg, and dairy products are increasingly competitive with animal products on the key drivers of consumer choice: taste, price, and accessibility. As a result, a growing number of mainstream consumers are buying plant-based options.
A quick Google search for veganism shows an increase of 580 percent over the last five years.
Veganism, as a term, has received at the end of 2019 almost five times more interest than vegetarian and cruelty-free searches combined.
Its purpose is to save people’s valuable time when they are looking for suitable products or services in a social environment, learning from one another.
Share products you know helping people to discover new vegan products and collaborating with the environment and local business.
It allows you to search for products by category and it also suggests products that you may not have heard of and where to find them near you.
Find companies that care about the environment, from tattoo shops to beautician salons. Check their ranking and share your feedback by rating them.
In times of COVID-19, all you want is to reduce the time in the supermarket to find the products you need. Learn from one another, find what product to buy and where to buy.
How can people find out more about you personally & your work?
If you want to know more about me you can visit www.wrccdesign.com which I always keep updated about my last works and write articles about design and veganism.

Who and where do you get inspiration from?
Talking about inspiration to create the vegan check, I would say the minimalist design. As a graphic designer, I do visit tons of designs website, trying to absolve a bit of every piece I like and add to my project.
Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
How was the development process before you launched the app to Google Play?
In the last 12 months, I’ve been saving money to be able to pay for the development in order to put this project off the ground.
After a few quotes that were too expensive, I found this company called Cognitic, and after talking to them, they showed interested to develop the app and their price was closer to what I was able to afford, they did a great job and I expect to have them on board for the future features that I’m planning for the app.
I’m currently part of the New Frontiers, an entrepreneur development program. I will apply to move to the second phase.
This is the MVP but and the goal is to get investment as there are so many things to implement.
One of the planning is to every month to donate and support the animal sanctuary and dog aid places.
